I have so many friends who just want their children (or anyone else) to say a sinner's prayer and then truly believe that their children are sealed for eternity, period. The fruit of salvation is long-term faithfulness, and the sinner's prayer really leaves that inconvenient part out. We don't do the sinner's prayer with our children either. Thanks for this great post. Thank you for stopping by!

If you read Luke 14:26 (what you are referencing) in the amplified version it reads like this: “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life [in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God]—he cannot be My disciple."

So, in other words, your love for Christ has to be much greater and not even compare to the love we have for our earthly relationships. He must take priority. Now in my case, loving Him looks like serving and submitting to my husband, keeping the home and training and loving my children. I do this to ultimately serve Him.

Christ said if we love Him we obey Him.

Any other questions? What does this mean-- are we to hate our family in order to serve Christ? I do not go to church but I am starting to read the bible, and I don't understand a lot of it.
SueAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4884056286591961829.post-15680587173376192702014-09-03T14:43:07.044-07:002014-09-03T14:43:07.044-07:00thank you for your good thoughts! thank you for your good thoughts! Instead of giving assurance, just ask if they are walking the surrendered walk today. It's so telling that that was THE method that was most-used in the decades of our childhood/growing up. "I said the prayer, walked the aisle…"

But God wants our HEARTS, not just lip service, and not a rote prayer.

Good article.Jess Connellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00372282510182101716noreply@blogger.com
